How Can Pelvic Physical Therapy Help after a Baby?

Pregnancy and childbirth are difficult on the pelvic floor muscles, core and back.  We believe every woman deserves postpartum care after delivery (whether vaginal or C-Section).

Post-natal issues are extremely common, but not normal!  More than half of moms experience incontinence, diastasis recti and low back pain.  Painful intercourse is extremely common, and almost 30% of women have a prolapse after childbirth.  All of these issues can be helped with postpartum pelvic physical therapy!

Can't I Just "Kegel"?

This is probably the most damaging pelvic health myth out there! After childbirth, the pelvic floor is usually overly tight and strained, protecting the area after the trauma of delivery.  Most of the time, we're actually working to relax the muscles so they can perform their normal tasks; definitely not over-taxing them and making things worse!

At PelvicSanity, there's no one-size-fits-all solution.  We work with you individually to find the underlying "why" for lasting relief of your symptoms.  We don't just strap you to a biofeedback machine and tell you to do your Kegels!

How Soon After Delivery Can I Start?

The newest guidelines say you should be seen by a provider in the first 3 weeks of your postpartum time.  You can certainly come in earlier if you're dealing with specific symptoms, but we'd love to see you about 3-4 weeks after delivery in an ideal world.

Can I Return to Activities and Exercise?

Absolutely!  We want to help you return to what you love doing after a baby.  We'll help you build a solid foundation in your core and pelvic floor, making sure your body is ready for the increased strain of exercise, activities, or just daily life!

Testimonials

"I was told by my OB that I had 5cm of diastasis that could not heal without surgery. After just ONE session at Pelvic Sanity, the diastasis closed to 1.5 cm. It was nothing short of a miracle!"

"Very satisfying experience!! I loved going to PelvicSanity,  which helped me a lot after my postpartum....kind, friendly and very knowledgeable!"

"Coming to PelvicSanity has been such a blessing.  I have tried other pelvic PT places, especially ones that are closer to my house, and I choose to go to PelvicSanity because I feel they are the true experts."
